He’s been named as the O’Neill School’s 2018 Favorite Professor of Undergraduate Programs Award based on student nominations and IUPUI Athletics’ Favorite Professor in 2015 and 2019 for a reason: Dr. Merritt is an inspiring person who cares for others and goes out of his way to help his students succeed. A native of Texas, Dr. Merritt made his way to Indy through his academic pursuits from his undergrad at Texas A&M in Political Science to his Masters and PhD in Public Administration from the University of Kansas to landing in our city as an Assistant Professor at IUPUI in Public Affairs.
In episode 14, Cullen spoke about his job as a professor and how he approaches it, his background and his path to becoming a professor in Public Affairs, and how he views mentoring relationships.
In this episode, his new research group called PROMPT where students will be able to obtain research experience alongside him, how he feels his job is to empower others to be their best selves, and his definition of success.
